Getting to Know STVSMB, Enugu

The Science Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board (STVSMB), Enugu, the Board charged with the responsibility of the management of the Special Science Schools, Vocational Colleges as well as the Technical Colleges is on course in the delivery of its set objectives. This Board has been in existence in Enugu State dating back to year 2007.

It does not come readily to the mind when mentioned in comparison with other sister Boards in the general administration of Education in Enugu State until recently. This is largely due to the previously abysmal negligence of the Board in particular and the Schools and Colleges under its control. This is attributable to the insufficient awareness on the part of the people, pertaining to the important roles the institutions of Science, Technology and Vocational studies, at the secondary level of Education play in job creation, technological advancement and economic growth of the society.

The current government of Enugu State, under the Leadership maestro of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (DR.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, went in fully with the mission to revamp Science, Technical and Vocational Schools/Colleges to take its pride of place in the States Education policy roadmap.

Suffice it to say that we have never had it so good in STVSMB until the present times when the man with the Midas touch came in to the rescue. On constituting the current Board of the STVSMB, the Governor’s marching order to rediscover the Board, its Schools/Colleges and to inject new ideas and policies needed to turn around the fortunes of the Board, for the good of the students and society, was taken seriously bearing in mind the disposition of the State Government to leave footprints of Excellence on all facets of the society.

The Board of STVSMB quickly reorganised the system and instituted specific directives, programs and policies towards the realisation of quality Education that produces students whom upon completion of their studies are employable with notable skill sets and also employers of labour. The following were policies, programs and projects undertaken for the needed turnaround of the system for the good society:

1. Strict and regular supervision/monitoring of staff and students through two different levels viz:

  • Chief Supervising Principals teams on continuous scrutiny of teaching and learning according to approved schemes of work/syllabuses, punctuality to duty and regularity of attendance to Schools/Colleges and duty stations.
  • Board Members and Directors teams targeted at following up with the supervision of Schools/Colleges to authentic the information as contained in the reports of Zonal Offices.

2. Construction, reconstruction and renovation of Dilapidated Classroom Blocks, Workshops, Examination Halls, Laboratories as well as the administrative offices.
